MUST VISIT SITES
MAHAL CAVES
Level: Open Water
Distance from Jumeirah Maldives: 40 minutes by dhoni
If you sail in the south direction inside the atoll, you’ll arrive at Mahal Caves, a dive site with a pinnacle formation, or “Giri,” as it is locally known. It’s a comfortable dive site that all levels of divers can enjoy. The top of the giri is around 3 metres deep and populated by hard corals and different species of reef fish. Descending a few metres you will see a colourful wall of beautiful soft corals and caves that is home to eels, lionfish, and lobsters. At 20 metres from the pinnacle, you will find a sandy bottom. If you love macro, this site is perfect for you. If you keep an eye on the ocean side, there’s a chance to see snappers, tunas, blue-fin trevallies, and sometimes white-tip reef sharks.

For Advanced Open Water Diver, you can explore the caves below, starting at 20 metres. Here you’ll find turtles and sharks hiding inside. Further down at 30 metres, there’s one huge cave big enough to dive inside, here you’ll find plenty of soldierfish.
